Assassin's Creed - Full story

Assassin's creed is great. It is intelligent just by its design. You play as Desmond Miles, a bartender who is a descendant of an assassin. At the beginning of the game, you are captured by a company called Abstergo. Two scientists, Vidic and Stillman, are working for Abstergo. Their job is to extract your ancestors memory to get a location of some sort. Vidic explains to you the concept of genetic memory. According to him, DNA acts as a archive, storing genetic messages and memories. They need to get into a machine called an Animus. It will read the genetic memories and render it into 3D. The thing is, you have to be synchronized with the memory in order for it to be accurate.

*************spoilers - don't read if your going to actually play the game********************

This is a really interesting concept. Instead of having a "health bar", you have a sync bar. When you do stupid things like die, or kill an innocent, you lose sync with the actual memory. Which means, that's not what really happened, your just not focusing on what really happened. But when you respect the Assassin's Creed, then your sync bar fills up again.

So anyway, when your in the Animus, you play as Desmond's ancestor, Altair. Altair has 'eagle vision'. A 6th sense that tells him more about his surroundings. He is the most talented assassin at the time, but is full of ego. He tries to show off by attempting to assassinate his brotherhoods sworn enemy, Robert De Sable. This was contradictory to what the brotherhoods Grand Master, Al-Mualim, asked him to do. Al-Mualim asked him to acquire something from the Ark of the Covenant. Since he was separated from his team, he returned to Al-Mualim empty handed. However, a survivor from Altair's team, Malik, returns with the prize (a piece of Eden is what they called it). When Al-Mualim realized that Altair's ego had nearly cost them victory, Altair is striped of his rank and weapons. He is demoted to a novice, and has to earn his rank by showing his master he no longer is arrogant.

Al-Mualim gives him 9 targets to assassinate, and claims each is playing a vital role in ensuring the crusades continue. With the fall of each target, a rank and a weapon is returned to Altair.

These are the list of targets, their names (all based on real life people), what they did, their histories, the reason they were to be assassinated, and the excuse they gave Altair in their dying breath.

1st target
Name : Tamir
Occupation : Arms Dealer
History : Hot tempered, egoistic, is funded by Saladin and his Saracen army ever since aided them
Reason : 2 sided arms dealer, selling to Saladin's and the Templar's men; armies on opposing sides
Excuse : He claimed to play a small part in a greater cause, and his work was not for mere profit.

*************************************************************************************

2nd target
Name : Garnier De Naplous
Occupation : Grand Master of The Knights Hospitaller & healer
History : Calm, spiritual/religious, more concerned of the fate of his patients than his own
Reason : Drugging slaves kidnapped from Jerusalem and brain washing them; often destroying their minds by accident
Excuse : The kidnapped patients that he brainwashed were beggars, prostitutes, the insane and the homeless. The brainwashing was just a small part in the healing process. He would cleanse their minds from the taint of evil, but sometimes it made them go nuts. He genuinely cared for his patients, which were usually recruited to be his personal guard.

3rd target
Name : Talal
Occupation : Slave Trader
History : A coward, hides behind his many bodyguards, a fair archer
Reason : Supplies slaves to Garnier
Excuse : The slaves were taken from sewers, slums and back alleys. All homeless and withered people that had no lives of their own. They were to be given a purpose.

*************************************************************************************

4th target
Name : Abu'l Nuquod
Occupation : Merchant Kind of Damascus
History : A Muslim, grotesquely overweight, has been breaking the tenets of his own religion (i.e. drinking alcohol, suspected homosexuality). He has been strongly supporting Saladin, and helps to fund the defense of the holy land. On the day of the assassination, he is holding a party. He gives a surprising speech to his guests were he tells that he has chosen to fight for another cause, and kills everyone at the party, as they all help fund the war.
Reason : His influence over Damascus had ensured that Saladins army is constantly funded
Excuse : He suddenly changed his mind as he realized that he couldn't help fund a war for the same God that would call him an abomination. He wants a "new world" where all men can live side by side.

5th target
Name : Maj'd Addin
Occupation : Jerusalem's Regent, Saladin's ex- scribe
History : Self appointed ruler of Jerusalem, since Saladin left for war. He is seen as a purely evil man by the people of the city. Power hungry.
Reason : Abuses his power, has public executions often, upholds the law to an unacceptable degree, any form of law breaking is usually punishable by death according to him
Excuse : He couldn't resist the power. He was just a scribe before, so all this power and influence fueled his ego. He was backed by a group of Templars that sought to change the world

6th target
Name : William of Monferat
Occupation : Liege Lord of Acre.
History : He was appointed ruler by King Richard even though his son, Conrad, isn't on good terms with the king. The king often berates William due to this, and William berates his own men
Reason : He stole food from the people, and was plotting to kill the king and take Acre for his son, Conrad. He even forced the people into conscription and was a harsh leader
Excuse : He was ushering in a New World, he stole food so it could be rationed when needed the most. Everything he did was for the long term benefit of the people. The people were being made to learn the benefits of discipline, and he was not taking Acre for his son, but for his group of conspirators.

*************************************************************************************

7th target
Name : Sibrand
Occupation : Leader of the Knights Teutonic, and the docks at Acre
History : Extremely paranoid of assassins to the point of insanity, unfair to the people
Reason : He was claiming ownership of over 100 vessels from the fishermen and mercenaries of Acre. His extreme paranoia led to unfair treatment of many people.
Excuse : He was taking over the ships to blockade shipments of troops so that the Crusades might be ended. He realized that there was no life after death; no heaven or hell, so he had to do what was needed while he could. He too was strong in his conviction, as were the rest.

8th target
Name : Jubair Al-Hakim
Occupation : Saladin's chief scholar
History : He used to preach words from Holy books and such. But a sudden enlightenment led him to change everything he believed in.
Reason : He was destroying every text in Damascus. He was willing to kill any one who was a threat to his cause.
Excuse : He believes that text and written work blind the people of Damascus and everywhere else. It is what makes Saladin and Kind Richard's men full of religious enthuseism. To Jubair, the people should see the world as what it is, and not what others write it to be.

*************************************************************************************

9th target
Name : Robert De Sable
Occupation : King Richard's Lieutenant.
History : The sworn enemy of the Assassins. He is the leader of the Templars, who along with the other 8 targets, had been working to make a 'new world'.
Reason : He is the leader of the Templars, who would stop at nothing to shape the world in their own way.
Excuse : He is not the last one who seeks to change the world; the last target is in fact Al Mualim!

The piece of Eden has the power to hypnotize people. Al-Mualim claimed that it was what started the Trojan War, what made people believe Jesus could change water into wine, and it held a great place in forging lies in ancient history.

At each ************************* interval, you get out of the Animus to rest and replenish.
You come to understand that Abstergo is in fact the Templars. They were looking for the
location of the piece of Eden, to ensure that they could change the world. Meaning the Templars had been at it for nearly a thousand years.

You also find out that Stilman is an assassin working under cover for them. She often helps you figure things out when Vidic isn't there.

You figure out that the Animus has a 'leak'. A previous test subject was driven mad because he couldn't tell the difference between the real world and the 3D genetic memory world. And Desmond suddenly becomes more like his ancestor Altair, as the 'leak' happens a bit to him.

You learn that throughout history, the Templars have been the ones to discover every modern breakthrough in science and technology. They did not discover it actually, but found it from an untold source. And throughout history, they have named the people to take the discovery as their own wisely (i.e. Isaac Newton).

When you play as Desmond Miles, you see weird writings in your sleep, but cannot interpret them much. At the end of the game, you suddenly have eagle vision! You can see many scribblings, no doubt laid there by Stillman, so that you may better understand your part in this whole thing. The scribblings are from many cultures, but all about the end or massive change in the world. The one that caught my eye is the Mayan date 13.0.0.0.0 - 21 December 2012. Which you figure out is the date that Abstergo has planned to launch its revolutionary satellite.

That last part is total balls!!! Those markings seen in eagle vision are left by subject 16 (the animus test subject before Desmond... And not stillman !!!)
