How could i resist blogging about this!
Old stupid subhash didn't shade the last 10 questions in the answer sheet.
otherwise I would have gotten only about 6 wrong.
With 10 empty shells, that's 16!
Oh Discordia! silly old me. Lucky it's just trials.
And this!
Metallica's new album was released. I got it a few days before the official release courtesy of gurdave and his handy-dandy memory stick.
The first time I listened to it, I was like "....seriously?"
Then I listened to it again. Stopped listening to the drumming, and it got better.
Old Lars Ulrich! He was my first drumming influence, but I dunno...
He's not as hard working as Chris, Mike, Danny or Gene.
Still, he was a pioneer of hardcore drumming techniques in his early years.
Now he's just a 40 year old whoopie cushion who doesn't respect his instrument any longer.
Why should he? He's got at least 81 million dollars to buy himself anything he breaks!
But, at least he put more effort in this album than St.Anger.(dumbass forgot to tighten the snare on the last one, Oh Discordia)
I think, overall, after listening to the new album for over a week, I would say.. 4 stars outta 5.
(can i hear you say Gawd Bomb? Gimme Hallelujah!)
Seriously.
I didn't like "My apocalypse" because it was messy towards the end, and the vocals weren't very secure. Did have very cool riffs on that track, still... messy..
"The end of the line" has by far, the coolest intro and solo riff in the album, possibly their entire discography. But, the verse and chorus was very uncool. Don't mix 2 opposites in one song. Oh Discordia!
"Broken, beat and scarred" was the heaviest track. My favourite. Had all the elements right on this track.
"Cyanide". Also very cool track. Best vocal melody on the chorus. Riffs we're quite good. Lotsa energy on this track. Lars was not bad on this track.
"The day that never comes" is their first single off the album. There's a semi-lame video on MTV and [V]. I still think this song is a rip off from their 1989 breakthrough hit "one". The progressions are very similar. Both videos were about soldiers. Both started acoustic then heavier chorus, and heavier still solo section, with one verse thrown in that section. Still. This song isn't too bad. the drumming could have been a little less stale. This song might sell.
"Unforgiven III" is the least hardcore song. In fact, there isn't much heavy in it. It's the easiest track to get into. Very good lyrics. If you've been a fan of Metallica, you may get the hidden meaning behind the lyrics. I think, however, the piano intro was a little excessive, and more of the bands own instrumentation should have been used, instead of ochestra stuff. Oh Discordia. Still, I love this song. This song will sell the most.
"All nightmare long" had potential, but utterly ruined by over use and repetitions. The chorus is the most ear-catching part of the song, but gets over used at the end.
"Suicide & Redemtion" is the only instrumental in the album. Not too bad actually. I think the drumming could have been a little more experimental and creative though.
"The Judas Kiss". Near perfection. Very original. Not too heavy, sexy lyrics.
"That was just your Life" is THE BEST! It's the opening track. It brings back all the old sounds of Metallica, and still so gawdamm good. A little heavy, a little fast, but a whole lotta awesome. And it's probably the only song that will never sell, because it's TRASH METAL!
I know, there was a lotta things I said they SHOULD HAVE changed. That's just critism. They're used to it. No album is perfect, and I'm not some boot licking fan who'd just say anything released by Metallica is perfect. Heck, I don't even think Lamb Of God are without flaw. I couldn't stand half the tracks on their 4th album. Anyway. Metallica is now slowly going back to the good old days. (can i hear you say Gawd Bomb?)
And the most important part was that they just proved to the world that at any given time, they could jump back in and produce and absolutely crazy good album.
Oh discordia, I should be sleeping...
