I got a new mouse!
That's a new record for me!
Getting a mouse with my own money was scary enough!
Then I sold that old mouse to my brother because he needed a mouse that was built for laptops.
Just so happens I bought a mouse meant for laptops solely because it had 200dpi more than the mouse meant for PCs. Stupid me.
So I was mouseless for about a month. Then, I got the chance to play Cod 4 again on Thursday/Friday. So, I brought out my old handy dandy Microsoft box standard mouse. Which has about 400 dpi....
I struggled with that the whole of Friday. Then, i remembered that this was the mouse that got me through 5 or 6 years of gaming, why is such a big problem getting used to something that has always been there for me?
By Saturday evening, I was playing better than I had ever played before. I killed 80 and died 36! That may not sound like much UNLESS you have played Cod4 multiplayer before. Mind you, the guys I played with were semi-pros.
I think..
Ah, (oh discordia!!!) but what was I gonna do with all that money I had been saving up???
Nearly 125 bucks! I'm not going to let that money just SIT there!
I took it to City Square, got to the shopkeeper and asked to see his best gaming mouse which was less than a hundred bucks.
I was planning on buying an A4 tech mouse. Because they're quite good, cheap, run on lasers instead of optics and rollers, and have a specially made 2X click button(which is handy in cod4, but not essential).
Instead, the shopkeeper led me to this big Logitech section at the back of the store, and pulled this semi ugly, semi beautiful mouse.
I thought it was going to cost 300+ bucks because it was logitech, so I started browsing in the A4 tech section again. Then, he comes to me after looking at a price list and says...
RM99.
I'm like, wow, I'll take it.
Since I think Darwin's theory of evolution is feasible, I now present to you my case study
"The evolution of The Mouse"
1st off, my long time companion the Mircosoft Basic Optical Mouse.
With a fixed 400dpi resolution, I had to increase sensitivity of mouse on every game.
Very bad for sniping. One mm movement would make the cursor move an inch sometimes. And sometimes if I leave it still, the cursor drifts off for some reason.
Then when chance (and cash) came, I decided to upgrade. Went to City Square and looked around. I had to decide between a pc mouse that looked like my old Microsoft one, but with standard laser optics and a 2X click button and a sexier green with pocka dot dents effect mouse meant for laptops with an extend-able cable and an advance laser optic system.
The A4 tech X6-60MD
I couldn't resist, even though it was tiny, and my large hands had to angle stupidly around it for better performance. I sold this to my brother because he needed it more, and I could take the discomfort. It's picture here in black with the dot-dents effect.
And finally The MX518 Optical Gaming mouse.
It has such a weird look about it. At first glance, you'd think it has a sheet of metal, bashed with a hammer. But it's actually smooth plastic. And the dents and scratches still look real! From different angles, the holes still look real! So, even though it looks broken, it's actually pretty amazing. The shape is very hard to get used to. But very comfortable. I'd say the coolest part is the programmable buttons and functions of the mouse. There is a + and a - button near the scroll. This increases and decreases sensitivity. From a 400dpi minimum to a 2000dpi maximum. At first, I was really sucky at it, because it was pre programmed at 400-800-1800 dpi. And my favourite dpi setting is 1000dpi. Then, I realised, there was a software that allowed me to select 5 levels of dpi. Neat.
So when I'm checking corners, I just have to boost it up to 1400. When I'm sniping, just lower it down a notch or two to 600 or 450, depending on distance. There's two thumb buttons that I haven't experimented much with. I'm thinking of programming them as grenade or reload keys.
All in all, this isn't such a bad mouse. I just need to train with it more (after SPM obviously) and everything will be ok.
Here's a pic of the MX500, MX510, and the MX518.
The first and second ones aren't as programmable according to the review.
My parents were a little confused.
Why would anyone waste a hundred bucks on...a...mouse...
I think you are too.
So, an analogy of sorts is in order.
How about this.
Most people have cameras, and take pictures for the hell of it.
Nearly every household a camera or two.
These cameras are usually basic, or fully automated cameras.
Then, there are professional cameras.
Usually used by professionals(duhh)
Professional cameras, although now mostly digital, are complex, cost thousands, large, and have every sorta lens for every sorta picture.
So, to me, buying a specific mouse is like buying a specific camera.
basically, most people find it impractical to waste money on a complex camera when all your going to do is point and click.
Same goes for mice. All your going to do is point and click.
Not unless your serious about photography right.
In my case, I'm serious about gaming. So I need this ..
Or I just wanted to throw my cash away!!
oh discordia..
I actually saw someone in Cod4, with the name discordia.
which is weird, because i'm quite sure it means nothing.
coincidence??
