Friday post 2.0

I was going through my song catalog just now. I just realized that I got the entire 'dreaming neon black' album and 'this godless endeavor' album by nevermore. (I still gonna buy original....someday..)... So anyway, since 'dreaming neon black' was a concept album which was of a man who slowly slips into insanity after the loss of his love one. It was kinda creepy how strong the songs were and I realized why everyone said it was one of their best works. If I had to sum it up, I would say that the album was the most emotionally complete albums
I've heard. Not emo or anything, just has the right balance of sad, angry and a bit of hopefulness at the end. Real nice combo, but some songs were a bit boring. So I listened to their latest album in its entirety. It was more "colourful" than 'dreaming neon black', and the lyrics were very strong. In fact, the lyrics below are from the song "the final product", from that album.

Just look at that

"Final Product"

The media loves the latest tragic suicide
They exploit it, then package it and profit from the people who die
Look at the world, look at the hell, look at the hate that we've made
Look at the final product, a world in slow decay
I'm told that all your seeds are black
I've learned the question in unanswered and opaque

We're witnessing a famine of the innocent
Did they die for religion or the government?
Because if your god won't do, their god will starve you
Look at the world, look at the hell, look at the hate that we've made
Look at the final product, a world in slow decay
I'm told that all your seeds are black
I've learned the question is unanswered and opaque

There are those that believe the world is ending again
That impending armageddon is inevitable and waiting

The last surviver barely breathing
Should I run, or will I fall,
How have I survived at all?

I've told that all your seas are black
I've learned the question is unanswered and opaque

We live in a time of revolution
We swim the silent seas of sanity gone

****************************************************

I don't know about you, but I think those are pretty good lyrics. The song is OK. Not as impressive as the lyrics them self. Weird, but its how I see it.

Another massive song in that album is 'sentient 6'
which is a continuation of another song from their old album.
In the first song, called
"the learning", a machine, or machines in general having a consciousness. And "learning" how to be more human.
The second part of the whole thing, which is the song, 'sentient 6' and is on the new album is about the machine being envious that it can't dream, or feel or go to heaven. At the middle of the song, it goes from emo mood to heavy because the machine programs itself to eliminate mankind. Really cool song.

The other songs on that new album are also pretty cool. There's a song, "The Psalm of Lydia" which is so unlike anything I've heard. Its heavy, fast, the lyrics are creepy and mythological, but the vocals are preachy and distant. It's one of the very few songs that I listen to mostly for the awesome guitar solo. I find most guitar solos...boring... But this one was like...not boring.... Ok, this is basically how the solo(s) in the song go.
Immediately after the first progression, there is this gajillion notes per minute solo. Which made me like...wow.. the first time I heard it.
Then, in the middle of the song, theres a solo battle between the 2 guitarists. Each taking turns to play their solo. Both super fast and melodic.
But the coolest part is, the song itself has about 3 chorus repeats, 2 verses, one closing verse, 1 intro solo, and 4 extra guitar solos, all squeezed into 4 minutes.
The whole arrangement of the song is so broken but manages to come together perfectly.

Thats all. I guess today was all about music. I spent the whole afternoon playing drums (badly) and the whole evening (till 5.30) listening to those albums.
