I was feeling a little down today after watching The Spirit so I got myself a post-Christmas, pre-New year, Boxing day present. A mouse pad. By Razer. Not too bad, it looks like a ten dollar piece of cushion but it actually works like a charm. It makes my mouse feel solid but weightless. Which is how its supposed to feel.
Anyway, The Spirit was really really good. I'd give it a 7.5/10. I would have given it a higher score, but because this was done by Frank Miller, I expected something a little more original, not some recycled scenes from Sin City(2005).
I kinda don't like most sorts of fiction, whether a book, a movie or a story, because mainstream modern fiction tries to explain itself or make sense of the whole magical situation. Look at Transformers(2007). That was a really fun movie, and it should have been just that. But it tried to explain everything with the allspark and it tried to give a back story to the Transformers, but no one wants to know how the bloody hell the allspark can change a inanimate objects into Decipticons or Autobots. If they hadn't tried to have the Allspark and the backstory, I would have enjoyed the movie a little more.
Even Dead Space was cool until they tried to explain how zombified humans could be made out of aliens. It's fiction. It's supposed to be magical.
If I wanted a story to take all the magic away, I'd have watch something by Michael Moore or read something by Bill Bryson.
I simply cannot stand modern fiction.
And that's the story of how I saved Christmas
